Today, Israel and the world mark the 60th anniversary of the freeing of the survivors of the Holocaust at the end of the Second World War, Holocaust Martyrs' Rememberance Day. The main ceremony takes place at the Yad VaShem Holocaust Memorial Museum in Jerusalem, with observances in every city, town and community throughout Israel, and much of the world. Israeli government and religious officials presided at the torch-lighting ceremony in Jerusalem, as places of entertainment closed throughout Israel, and schoolchildren observed special programs in every school.
In his show today, Marty Roberts shares his thoughts on why this day is SO important, why, if we do not learn and REMEMBER the lessons of this human tragedy, the Shoah, the Holocaust, we are most likely to see it repeated. Unfortunately, all the evidence, throughout the world, is that the lessons of history are NOT being remembered. In the US and Europe, most do not know about the tragedy of the six million murdered Jews of the Holocaust. Earlier this week Natan Sharansky, Minister of Diaspora Affairs and Jerusalem in Ariel Sharon's Likud Israeli government, resigned. Having opposed Sharon's "disengagement"/expulsion plan from the start, he finally came to the conclusion that he could no longer be a part of the government executing the plan. In his impassioned letter of resignation, Sharansky clearly articulates the reasons why it is folly to unilaterally make concessions to the palestinians without receiving anything in return. Indeed, he saw US president Bush's "dream" for the Middle East slipping away, in the absence of any demands for democratic reform in the palestinian society, not to mention no movement whatsoever to eliminate terror and incitement. In Last week's municipal election for the palestinian authority, the terrorist organization Hamas was the victor. Palestinian leader Abu Mazzen's Fatah party received less votes than the Hamas organization, running on a platform calling for Israel's destruction. This does not bode well for the general parliamentary elections to be held in July, where the newly elected government's control is on the line. The US, Europe, and even Israel have put their faith in Abu Mazzen and his Fatah to bring peace to the region. US president Bush is counting on them to "make his dreams come true". Marty Roberts explains why a somewhat rude awakening may be about to take place for all of the dreamers of the world, as their fantasies are about to go up in smoke...
Also...the lawlessness continues, with public executions in the streets of the areas newly placed under palestinian control. And not even the slightest move towards ending the terror, in fact, the opposite, as attacks and attempted attacks are rising dramatically. The light of the bonfires also reminds us of the light of Torah, specifically that of the mystical text, The Holy Zohar, brought to light by Rabbi Shimon Bar Yochai, who's passing is also remembered on the 33rd Day of the Omer.
Also...Israel and Lebanon are remembering Israel's retreat from Southern Lebanon five years ago. THAT unilateral "disengagement" left in its wake more than 12,000 of Nasrallah's Hizbullah missiles pointing southward and threatening a goodly portion of Israel's territory and population.
Is there a lesson to be learned here about "unilateral disengagement"?

Even more weird, as George W. writes out a $50M check, DIRECT, guaranteed to go straight into the hands of the terrorists...NO NGO's, NO UN, NO NOTHING to guarantee any semblence of accountability for the US taxpayers' money!!!

The repercussions of the stream of leaders from the Middle East to the Big House on Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington are still reverberating around the world...
Popular opinion and the press would have it that George W.'s "unprecedented support" for Ariel Sharon and Israel has, to say the least, softened. Nothing but praise for Arab leaders, including Abu Mazzen of the palestinians, more pressure on Israel for further dangerous concessions, and not a single demand on the palestinian terrorists...not a word about living up to their umpteen gazillion unfulfilled comittments to Israel, the US and the rest of the world...not a word about fighting terror, political reform, establishing democracy, freedom, human rights...the list goes on...
All the talk about the US supporting Israel's positions with regard to territory, existing communities (settlements?) and the alleged right of Arabs to "return" to Israel and overwhelm the Jewish population demographically seem to have been lost in the translation...The taxpayers bucks and chief exec's words of encouragement are all flowing in the direction of Israel's enemies...
Why???...The only answer that comes to mind is...OIL...ARAB OIL...What else?
Any logical analysis of US interests, based upon principles and ideals, would result in overwhelming, unconditional support of Israel's positions...so, why not??? What's wrong with this picture???
America need to fuel those SUV's and those ancient, oil-burning non-nuclear electric power stations...It's just getting TOO expensive to be idealistic...One needs to be REALISTIC, NO???
Wake up, America, before it's too late!!!...
